SFPA Welcomes FDA’s Proposed Update to the “Healthy” Definition

Washington, September 28, 2022 – The Sustainable Food Policy Alliance (SFPA), which includes global food companies Danone North America, Mars, Incorporated, Nestlé USA, and Unilever United States, released the following statement:

“SFPA welcomes FDA’s proposed rule to update the definition of “healthy.” We have long maintained that FDA’s definition of “healthy” should be based on the preponderance of scientific evidence including recommendations from the most recent DGAs, extend beyond a single icon or symbol, and focus on foods and meals that build healthy eating patterns and limit negative nutrients.  We look forward to reviewing the rule more closely with this view in mind.”
