SFPA supports the Equality Act

SFPA supports the Equality Act

WASHINGTON, March 17, 2021 – Today, the Sustainable Food Policy Alliance (SFPA), including members Danone North America, Mars, Incorporated, Nestlé USA, and Unilever United States, released the following statement in support of the Equality Act:

“Providing the same basic protections to LGBTQ people as are provided to other protected groups under federal law is the right thing to do – for SFPA businesses and for society.

As a core part of our business principles, we believe that all people are equal and that every person deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, and fairness, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, genetic information, age, national origin, disability, and military or veteran status. These principles guide the way SFPA companies work, run our businesses, and engage with communities, and they contribute to our strength as companies continually evolve alongside our consumers.

Policies that discriminate against LGBTQ individuals have a harmful impact on business operations and the ability of businesses to recruit and retain talent. Simply put, such policies are  out of step with the views of  Americans. The enactment of the Equality Act would protect LGBTQ workers against discrimination not only at their jobs, but in their ability to access housing, credit, education, and federally funded programs in the communities where they live and where our companies conduct business.

The Equality Act is a strong step forward towards ensuring that all people, in all settings, are treated with fairness, dignity and respect.”
