Washington, August 26, 2025 — The Sustainable Food Policy Alliance (SFPA) is calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure that post-market assessment of food ingredient efforts include a transparent prioritization process with criteria that meet the needs of public health and stakeholders.
In comments on FDA’s “Tool for the Prioritization of Food Chemicals for Post-Market Assessment,” SFPA recommended that the tool focus on intentionally added ingredients, consider both public health and other decisional criteria, and clearly communicate the weighting behind decision criteria with public health concerns and other government actions ranking higher than certain other factors.
