SFPA has joined with consumer groups, companies and other organizations in calling on Congress to provide the Food & Drug Administration with an additional $30 million to fund food chemical reassessment efforts in fiscal year 2025. This level of funding, which goes well beyond the White House’s request, will provide a much-needed boost to the agency’s oversight of food ingredients, ensuring consumer confidence in the safety of our food system and offering industry predictability for producing safe and affordable foods for American consumers.
SFPA is committed to advocating for these resources, acknowledging our role in the food supply chain and the importance of an effective federal regulator.
At the same time, we recognize the work FDA is already doing to increase transparency, prioritization and consumer awareness around food ingredients.
We all have a shared responsibility to ensure that our food is safe. We appreciate that FDA is undertaking this work and will continue working with the agency, consumers, food companies and other stakeholders to further these efforts.
