The Sustainable Food Policy Alliance (SFPA) today sent a letter to the leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees asking that they fully fund the USDA’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) in fiscal year 2024 to sustain current benefits amid increased participation. In particular, SFPA argues “the proposed WIC funding levels for fiscal year 2024 are insufficient and threaten to worsen nutrition outcomes, turn away eligible applicants and reduce available benefits. This funding reduction jeopardizes the health and well-being of thousands of mothers and young children who increasingly rely on WIC.”
